35 hour work week

Posted by Monica 24 July 2008

I was just reading an article on Time.com that France has decided to extend their 35 hour work week. I didn’t know that France had a 35 hour work week! That meant that if they worked more than 35 hours, they got paid overtime! Anyway, France’s government has decided that they will allow businesses to require that their employees work longer hours without paying them. Understandably the businesses are happy about that, the employees not so much.  I know I’d rather have a 35 hour work week!

Cute shoes

Posted by Monica 24 July 2008

I have a hard time finding shoes that fit me. I especially have a hard time finding cute women’s shoes that fit me. Sometimes, in order to find shoes that fit me, I have to buy men’s shoes! But those are usually sneakers and it is hard to tell the difference between women’s shoes and men’s shoes when you are buying sneakers!

There is a new brand of shoes called Blowfish Shoes that I’ve been hearing about. I was checking them out on the Internet, and they have some really cute Blowfish Women’s Shoes that I’d like to try on. According to their store locator, there is a store about a thirty minute drive from where I live that sells Blowfish shoes, so I think maybe this weekend I’ll try to go to the store and find some to try on.

I hope I don’t end up having to buy Blowfish Men’s shoes just to get some shoes to fit me!

Udderly nuts

Posted by Monica 24 July 2008

The local newspaper ran a short story, contributed by some readers about a couple from Maryland who go to the grand openings of Chik-Fil-A restaurants around the country. (For those of you who may not know what Chik-Fil-A is, it is a fast food restaurant that sells chicken products, no beef products. Their advertising campaigns involve cows encouraging people to eat chicken.)   Their chicken sandwiches and nuggets, and their fries are very tasty, and I can understand people wanting to get free food from the restaurant, but this couple has gone to extremes!

They camp out in the parking lot the night before so they can be one of the first 100 customers. Chik-Fil-A gives out “free Chik-Fil-A for a year” coupons to their first 100 customers. This couple has gone to eighteen of these grand openings in the past year, and have decided that they can’t use all the coupons, so now they just go for the fun of it and give the coupons away.

I don’t understand what is so much fun about camping out in a parking lot to be one of the first 100 customers to get free food if you then give away the free food! I’m udderly confused.

Comparing web hosting

Posted by Monica 21 July 2008

My brother was telling me that he is thinking about moving his website to another hosting plan but he isn’t sure how to do it.  I told him to go to the top 10 web hosting.com website and click on the link that says “Move host guide” on the left side of the page under the category “Webmaster Guide” and he could find an article that explains how to do it.  The top 10 web hosting website is a site that reviews the top 10 web hosting services and has a lot of other informative articles and tips about web hosting.  It is a good resource to use when thinking about getting, or moving, a web hosting service.

Boy, let me tell you, cooking a pork anything in the crock-pot stinks up the house so badly! Yesterday I decided to cook a pork shoulder during the day, so we could have shredded pork barbecue sandwiches a few times this week. But I didn’t want to stink up the house, everyone was home and I knew that they would all complain about how badly the house smelled while it was cooking. And a pork shoulder has to cook a long time - one hour on high, then seven to nine hours on low!

So I decided to cook it in the crock-pot in our garage, where the stink wouldn’t bother us. It worked out just fine, I kept the big garage door open to help the stink escape the garage, and a fan blowing to circulate the air out as much as possible. So I plan to do that in the future, too, when cooking something stinky in the crock-pot!
