Do you use a GPS device?

Whenever my hubby and I go someplace out of town, we try to bring a GPS device with use. Most of the time we already know the way to where we are going, but I like to use it anyway, because it helps us to determine a detour around a traffic jam if we come across an accident. And there have been times when we have accidentally missed a turn because we had a brain cramp (or you can call it a senior moment if you prefer) and it is nice to have a GPS there to remind us that the turn is coming up, or if we miss the turn because of unforeseeable circumstance, it helps us get to our destination with a recalculated route after we missed the turn.

I’d love to buy a zumo 220 GPS for my hubby’s birthday for him to put on his Harley. He’s always getting lost on it, and having a GPS on his Harley would help him to stay on track. My biggest concern about buying anything for his Harley, though, is how safe from thieves will it be? I’d hate to spend a fortune on something like that just to have it stolen off his bike!

Parks and Recreation Issues

It’s kind of crazy to be thinking of Park Benches and Picnic Tables right now, less than a week away from Christmas, but considering how much time we spend at the parks during the nice weather months these items become pretty darned important to the adults that are left sitting and waiting while our kids spend hours on the playground equipment at these wonderful parks that are in such need for an upgrade these last couple of years.

My nephew’s favorite park to go to still has those old wooden Park Benches and Picnic Tables that we are always so careful to avoid getting splinters from. I know that with all of the budget cuts going on right now that replacing these types of things isn’t way up high on the list of priorities but I really wish that they could find some way to make us all safer at our parks.

I am grateful that at least the playground equipment has been upgraded a few years back. I guess the safety of our kids is more important than the safety and comfort of the supervising adults, which I certainly understand, but am not happy with at all.

School memories

My sister invited me to go with her to her 40th class graduation anniversary reunion festivities this autumn, and I agreed to go. The only school reunion I’d ever been to before was my hubby’s 10th class graduation reunion reunion  where I didn’t know a soul and I enjoyed that well enough so I thought it would be fun to visit with her former classmates. After all at least these folks had gone to the same school I had gone to and we might have actually known each other back in the day.

Part of the weekend festivities included a tour of the school we had graduation from. What was interesting about this tour was the fact that the school we had attended had actually been completely leveled and a new building stood in its place. So walking down those hallways did not trigger any fond memories at all. Even the football field was completely redone – gone were the old aluminum bleachers that we sat on, freezing off our tushies while cheering on our football team and huddling together under blankets. Our drill team used to sell special seat pads with the school team’s name and logo on them to  sit on to keep our tushies warm(er) and support the sports program at the same time.

One of the things that struck me as I walked down the hallways of the new building is how small lockers have become since I was in school. Although there are more students, and I’m sure that space is an issue, I just cannot imagine that these new lockers have enough space in them for coats, winter boots, and books and lunch boxes. What are these engineers thinking when they design these things? These lockers should be larger.

Charitable Donations

I had no idea that there was a need nor the option to donate timeshares these days. Apparently there a lot of special needs children that can benefit from charitable donation gifts such as a timeshare, which I think it really cool. Not only can you donate the typical car or truck, but you can donate just about any kind of transportation item including boats, tractors and airplanes and tractors, now how cool is that?

This is the time of the year that people are really starting to think about donating things, with the end of the year fast approaching and the need to donate things in order to use them for tax write off purposes is strong. So donating anything is a win-win situation all the way around for everyone involved. It isn’t often that anything that you do has that benefit, right?

So if you haven’t thought about donating yet, now is definitely the time to start, before you know we will be totally involved in all of the holidays that keep us on fast forward and things get really crazy.

Indoor Water Fun For All

One place that I would really enjoy going to with several family members that have kids is the Great Wolf Lodge that we see those cool commercials for every now and then. They have the most awesome Indoor Water Park of any other place that caters to Indoor Activities for Kids that I’ve ever seen and I’m sure that we would all have a total blast exploring and enjoying together as one big happy family.

I had no idea that there was more than one Great Wolf Lodge until I looked up the website earlier today after seeing their commercial while watching all the 9-11 ceremonies that have been going on most of the day. It seems that there are nine of these wonderful Indoor Water Parks spread across the east coast, which is pretty cool to find out. I am going to start chatting the idea of visiting the one closest to us to several family members and see what they think about all of us going together some time after the holiday season is all over and done with. I’ll keep you posted on what I find out!
